FR

Farah Roslan

Bangsar, KL  ·  Marketing Manager

"I joined the Steady Habits programme in April not really knowing what to expect. I was a bit sceptical — I've done financial planning courses before and they always left me feeling worse, not better. This was completely different. The pace was calm, nobody was pushing anything, and I actually found myself looking forward to each session."

"The habit journal has become something I use every Sunday morning. That alone made it worth it for me."

Petaling Jaya  ·  Freelance Designer

"As a freelancer my income is irregular, and most money content I've come across assumes you get a fixed salary. Tenang didn't assume anything. The reflection exercises were open enough that I could apply them to my actual situation."

"I do think six sessions goes quickly — I would have liked a bit more time on the routine-building part. But overall it was genuinely useful and the facilitator was excellent."

Mont Kiara, KL  ·  Finance Executive

"I work in finance so I know the numbers side of things reasonably well. What I was missing was any real understanding of why I behave the way I do around money. The Foundations Course gave me eleven weeks to think about that properly. It sounds strange to say a finance course helped me understand myself better, but that's honestly what happened. The money story prompts in particular were something I've kept returning to."

Subang Jaya  ·  SME Owner

"I did the half-day workshop first just to see if it was worth continuing. It was really well run — focused, no fluff, no sales pitch at the end. The facilitator was clear about what the session was and wasn't, which I appreciated. I've since enrolled in the Foundations Course and I'm about four sessions in. It's a different pace from what I expected, but I think that's the point."

Nur Aisyah

Cheras, KL  ·  Teacher

"I came to the workshop feeling quite overwhelmed about my finances, which I hadn't really admitted to myself before. The session was structured in a way that made it feel safe to be honest — with myself and in the group. I didn't have to share anything I wasn't comfortable with."

"I left with a clearer sense of what I actually want to pay attention to, rather than a list of things I'd done wrong. That reframing was what I needed."

William Khor

TTDI, KL  ·  Engineer

"The habit grid is deceptively simple. I thought tracking would feel restrictive but it's actually just... interesting. Seeing the patterns over a few weeks told me things about myself that no budget app has ever surfaced. I'm now in the second half of the Foundations Course and the sessions are still offering new questions I haven't thought about before. Genuinely one of the more useful things I've spent time on this year."

Case Studies

Longer journeys

Three accounts with a bit more detail — for those who want a clearer picture of what a full programme experience can look like.

The situation

Sajidah, 34 — HR Consultant, Damansara

Sajidah had been telling herself she would "sort out" her finances "after the next project" for about three years. She had a reasonable income but no clear sense of where it went, and the gap between what she earned and what she could account for was a source of ongoing low-level anxiety.

What she did

Sajidah joined the Steady Habits Programme in February. She initially found the group format a little uncomfortable — she had expected something more individual — but adjusted quickly. The facilitator's approach of starting with observation rather than prescription meant she spent the first two sessions simply noticing her patterns without being asked to change anything. She found this unexpectedly useful.

What shifted

By week four, Sajidah had identified two specific habits she wanted to look at — not because anyone told her to, but because the reflection exercises had made them visible. Three months after the programme ended, she described the main change as "just feeling less chaotic about it all." Not a transformed financial picture, but a calmer, more deliberate relationship with money day to day.

"I expected to leave with a plan. I left with something more useful — a habit of noticing."

The situation

Marcus Tan, 41 — Small Business Owner, PJ

Marcus ran a small logistics business and had always kept business and personal finances entirely separate in his mind — which worked well professionally but meant he had almost no visibility into his personal money habits. He joined the Foundations Course after attending a talk at a community centre where Tenang's facilitator was presenting.

The eleven weeks

Marcus described the first few sessions as "a bit abstract" — he is practical by nature and the reflective format took some getting used to. By session five, however, he was using the money story prompts in ways he hadn't anticipated, tracing habits he had absorbed from his parents' approach to money and examining which of those still served him. He attended all three reflection clinics and found the smaller format more immediately useful for specific questions.

Six months on

Marcus still uses the habits reference journal from the course. He has not dramatically changed his financial picture, but he describes his relationship with personal money decisions as "less reactive." He sent a follow-up note to say he had recommended the course to a colleague and that he felt the ongoing digital material access had been more useful than he expected at the time.

"I came in wanting systems. What I got was awareness — and actually, that's been more useful."
